I always seem to amaze myself with the photos I take, I was with my parents coming back from my cousins high school graduation, I saw this (I had my DSLR with me for the graduation) and I made my dad pull over, well we were going to anyway, we were going to visit the house my mom grew up in (it was on the corner, a few feet away). This was near the corner of 14th & Quitman on the West-Side of Denver.

My Opinion here, get rid of the black and white one here. The colors add so much more to the photo. The worn out truck and the brightly painted barn give a country feel compared to the more city feel of the large brick building and hotel/apartment complex in the distance, that contrast isnt as clear in the black and white but adds a lot to the photo.
I need to get a DSLR, my cell phone pics are actually pretty good, makes me want to know what I can do with better equipment.

Having a good eye makes all the difference.
What kind of lense and body are you shooting?

Like everyone else I prefer the full color, it's a fantastic shot. Though, I truly hope you don't mind, and if you do please just dismiss the comment and make it disappear, but I was inspired to removed all the colors but green and off/white. Looked kind of cool. This was the result:

Like it, the colored one looks a little over saturated, but it works. I started a project called Rust in piece some time ago, and this was the first image, Now that Im in Western PA, I think I can probably get more images.

the eye is very important, I used a Nikon d3100 with the standard 18-55 lens

I don't mind, and I like your edit. It's just not what I was going for, it was raining lightly and the colors were vibrant, I was trying to accentuate that without it looking fake. It's not all about composition, some of its vision.

Nice. I've got a D5100 and a D600.
I've got a Rokinon 14mm that would work great on that 3100.

do it, I did. My photos take. On my iPotato5 were good, but the image quality is better on my DSLR. The above photo was taken on my iphone, edited on my iPad using photogene.

If only I had the money. These are unedited off my Razr HD, not bad if I say so myself.

They are really good. It shows that they were taken with a phone in the fact that the colors lack depth. Cell phone cameras are really bad at showing variety in color. Try putting them in monochrome, they might look a little better color wise
